Here is an Apple page with a number of links to short videos showing some things you can do with the device that might be a helpful starting point for you.  Reading all the posts here can be helpful and might give you ideas of things you want to ask about.  There are also tutorials available on YouTube.

Hold your finger on an app until they all start jiggling and then just drag one on top of another.  A folder will pop up and you can rename it to suit your preference.

What I do with apps that I can't get rid of because they are resident, or that I don't want to see while I evaluate if I really want to get rid of them, is I created a folder called "Junk," which is on my very last page, all by itself. So I don't have to look at them. And I put all those apps in the Junk folder. Out of sight, out of mind.

Original question:
> Put your finger on the app you want to delete until all of them begin to jiggle and an "x" appears on the left corner of each that can be deleted. Tap the "x" on the one you want to delete and you will receive a confirmation message. When you are through, press your Home button to stop the process.

Jim's answer:
This technique will NOT work to remove any of Apple's *built-in* Apps. They can not be removed
