Off course they are. but for those that have this need for an OSX iPad, an iPad that removes or improves its useability shortcomings is a step forward. For those that want to work on the go, travelling, flying, where they can use a tablet OS in small device, ina way that is convenient. Id hardly suggest to do high end tasks that you mention. But to have the ability to have the tablet OS operate in such a way that you dont feel restricted, impeded.
Id suggest most users dont do 3D modeliing etc, but Id suggest that few could or would, replace the laptop with an iPad, 100%. IMO, a 12.2 iPad, with external keyboard, and a little more openness could bridge that full OS to iOS gap a great deal. I also think that OSX on an iPad is a bad idea. I can see the rumoured iPad Pro, having a bit more freedom that the other iPads in that its iOS version will allow that, on my assumption that its targeting businesses

No, not true.
There is a perfectly good point in having different devices for different purposes.
It is easier to do video editing on a machine with a large screen, and perhaps a second screen, although it *can* be done on a 13" laptop.
It is easier to do 3D modeling on a machine with multiple CPU's, but it probably *can* be done on a dual-core machine.
It is completely reasonable that there are things that are much easier to do on a Mac than on an iPad.
