Yes, as long as an app is still available, any deleted will be listed in Purchased in the App Store and can be downloaded again at no cost.

Ok thanks.  That is what I have been doing.  So if I do that, they are completely gone off the iPad yet they are listed in the App Store list if I should decide to reinstall them.  Am I thinking right?

This technique will NOT work to remove any of Apple's *built-in* Apps. They can not be removed.
