Filtering can't be done on the iPad, but I believe it can be done on the Mac.
But since we can now create another mailbox at least we can move important mail to that box to keep as long as we need to find it quickly.
Set up filtering on your home computer, or on your mail server, and use IMAP, and all of the folder structure can be mirrored on the iPad. The filtering can *happen* somewhere else, but the results are seen everywhere.
