Re: [iPad] Why Is Almost No One Using Apple Pay? - Forbes

I'm sure I'll test out my apple pay when I get it but I don't see myself using it that much. But then again except for online shopping (which is the majority of my shopping) I use cash.

I use it every time I go to McD's; also one of my regular grocery's has it working on *some* of their terminals.

Whenever I see the right kind of terminal, I try it.

Unfortunately, my neighborhood pharmacy is RiteAid (who currently refuses), and the nearest Walgreen's is inconveniently located.

Twice a month I do hit the grocery store and so ill try it out at Safeway if I can and maybe use it there just to say I did and see how it works.

My Safeway's don't have it. Yet.

I do hope it's faster than using the bank card then I'll use it more.

I generally have my iPhone more easily to hand than my wallet; and my Apple Watch is right there on my wrist, so I actually don't have to take ANYTHING out of my pocket.

The great majority of Point-Of-Sale (POS) terminals in use in the USA cannot do NFC, or read embedded-chip cards (EMV).

I expect the changeover later this year to result in nearly everyone with a POS terminal to be able to accept both.

By law, in October 2015 the liability shifts from consumer to vendor for fraudulent transactions at POS terminals, so there is a strong incentive coming to implement more secure methods

Visa, MasterCard and Discover in March 2012 – and American Express in June 2012 – have announced their EMV migration plans for the US.

Since the announcement, multiple banks and card issuers have announced cards with EMV chip-and-signature technology, including American Express, Bank of America, Citibank, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, U.S. Bank, and several credit unions.

• American Express is implementing a liability shift for point of sale terminals in October, 2015. For pay at the pump, at gas stations, the liability shift is October, 2017.

• Discover is implementing a liability shift on 1 October 2015. For pay at the pump at gas stations, the liability shift is 1 October 2017.

• MasterCard is implementing a liability shift for point of sale terminals in October, 2015. For pay at the pump, at gas stations, the liability shift is October, 2017. For ATMs, the liability shift date is in October 2016.

• Visa is implementing a liability shift for point of sale terminals on 1 October 2015. For pay at the pump, at gas stations, the liability shift is 1 October 2017. For ATMs, the liability shift date is 1 October 2017.
