As I remember it:
The message means (not reads): "no UNLOCKED SIM-card found". And in true Apple fashion, the option to unlock only shows when the device is not in Airplane mode.

I may well be at least partially wrong, but I suggest that you try this direction for solving.

my iphone 5s displays "no sim card" and thus its data capabilities are kaput...this has happened before and the fix was to turn off the phone and then restart...that fix isn't working now...any suggestions?
