One uncompressed album is about 700MB (which might FLAC "lossless compress" to about 350MB - see below * ). The way mobile bandwidth is sold in the US, that's prohibitively expensive. Something has to change. It will, of course, but not next year. In the meantime, pre-load.
And there's this:
" As it turns out, there are plenty of stations that stream at 320 Kbps MP3, but not all of them qualify as high fidelity to my ears. In fact, many sounded poorer than stations streaming at 256 or 192 Kbps. My guess is that's because they were often playing back MP3 files that don't meet that standard as the source, which were simply being recompressed to 320 at playback. Such recompression–called "stacking codecs"–only further degrades sound quality, and never improves it. "
And from the same source:
* " Finally there are a handful of stations that stream in full CD-quality, without any MP3 or AAC compression. Most use a standard called FLAC which reduces the amount of data needed by half, but without throwing away any data like both MP3 and AAC do. These stations stream at bitrates from about 768 Kbps to 1.44 Mbps (megabits). A decade ago those would have been considered outrageous bandwidth hogs. But given that HD streaming video requires 3+ Mbps, today that doesn't seem so bad. "
Yup. Steaming 320 takes up more than 2X the data than 128..... So half as many songs can be streamed.~KLM\\ "Antisocial behavior is a trait of intelligence in a world full of conformists" ~Nikola Tesla //

Not streaming. Not on limited bandwidth. That's the most annoying part of music match. It downloads your music at high bitrate. I'd prefer to choose between 128 and 320. Mostly because I would choose quantity over quality. Mostly because I can't hear the alleged quality and but also because I'd rather have 3x the selection.~KLM\\ "Antisocial behavior is a trait of intelligence in a world full of conformists" ~Nikola Tesla //

I imagine that before too many years have passed - five or ten? - we'll start seeing Spotify, Pandora, Rhapsody, and Apple all doing uncompressed. Maybe someone will even bite the hi-def bullet
