Sounds silly (no pun intended) but did you check the volume and ascertain that it's all the way up? Obviously the computer works as it sends sound so no need to restore and obviously the diehards work as alert sounds go off. I suspect alters volume is up and on the music app the volume is done or perhaps a slider in settings is turned down.
Lastly. On an iDevice when a piece of dirt gets in the jack it may constantly try to send music through the headphones and not the speaker. Perhaps try a bit if canned air into the port.

I cannot get any sound on my ipad. If i use headphones, I can hear music, etc. but nothing without them. I am able to hear system sounds. I have done everything, factory restore and everything else I read about on the internet as a solution. Nothing works. I do know that many people have this same problem. Thanks is advance. Joyce
