It's the "carat" character, on most windows keyboards, it's shift-6: ^
On my iPad onscreen keyboard, I hit the numbers button to change the
keyboard from alpha to numeric and then tap the button just above the
left shift key that has the #+= on it and then it's the 5th button from
the right on the top row of the keyboard.
