Yes it is a shock. My first of many trips to the US, I didn't have to drive, when I did, I found it draining. Mentally telling myself to stay on the right side of the road. Honeymoon in 08, I drove a lot, I was pretty good. All round LA over a few days, drove to Las Vegas, drove to SFO. Flew to DC then drove there for a few days then drove to NYC, and in NYC. My technique was to focus on keeping the drivers side of the car, in the middle of the road, that made it much easier. Only two or three mistakes over the month.
Here in NZ we have a major issue with tourist drivers, they cause many accidents and recently some deaths. I know myself, to get an International Licence costs $20. Not even any documentation on US road rules. Walk in, walk out

When I drove a car in Thailand. A stick shift. And they drive on the, ahem, wrong side of the road and the drivers seat was on the right, not left, it was indeed a shock to me.
