What makes it so maddening is that I've spent years, maybe decades getting used to PCs. I finally gave up on Linux, and I gave my Mac Pro, giant of a thing, to my son.

I've been computing since the MS Dos days, and technically before that. My first computer was a little single board thing based on the RCA Cosmac chip. I also had a Motorola D2 kit which used the  Motorola 6800 series chip. [Funny thing about Motorola, that name come from their first product, a car radio. ALots of 'ola' products then. Victor-Ola [record player. Remember the symbol,

I dog looking at the horn of the player, the caption, 'His Masters voice']

I had a funny little 8080 based computer called the 'Interact'. It had 16 k of ram, more than three time what my Vic 20 had. I did not have built in BASIC, which instead loaded from a cassette.

So people create all sorts of programs that ran from cassette including an 8080 assembly program.

I added ram to the Interact bringing it up to 65k.
