Is compensating not done to repair a faulty component (glasses for eyes) whereas enhancing is usually to make a good component work better?

Enhancing to me is positive, compensating negative. Changing things just to make them different isn't enhancing nor compensating. If a product is designed to make it easier for switchers, that seems to me the way to go.
