Ok, but it's now been going all morning with no movement. It's at the part with the apple on the screen and the line is supposed to be working its way across the screen, but is stopped just less than half way. Should I just leave it going? Is it paused somehow? Might it finish by the time I get home tonight? What do I do with it now?

20 minutes or less.
But if you happen to hit them when a whole lot of people just discovered there's an update, the servers can get overloaded and speed suffers.
