[iPad] iPad and Carer Duties

I am new to this group having joined with a new iPad4.
I act as an "at home" carer and intend to use the iPad to generate Reminder Alarms throughout the day for taking medication etc.
It will mean the iPad being on about 14 hours every day.
My question is as to whether the device would be happy switched on for this time and then charged overnight.
The alternative would be to have the charger plugged in most of the day and rested overnight.
I have had some experience of devices overcharging and "boiling" batteries but does the iPad have a safety cut out to prevent this?.
Any advice or ideas on how to proceed would be appreciated

Best regards
Brian.
