You don’t need an “inverter” to charge your iPod, iPad, iPhone from a car battery. There are tons of vehicle charging adapters being sold to do that by plugging into the car’s cigarette lighter jack.
For example:
As a bonus, one could “roll their own” solar charger by simply hooking up the output of a solar panel to such a car charger as just mentioned.

Yes there is but the sun doesn't shine during a hurricane. You would be better off with an inverter that plugs into a cars cigarette lighter socket. A $20 inverter from Radio Shack, Lowe's or Home Depot is all you need.
