If you lose the one that comes with your iPad (in the US), then yes, you will need to buy another.
 
This is news to me -- that the iPad 2 in the US comes with a wall charger. But if so, Carolyn shouldn't have had a problem charging.
 
Here in India, Apple decided to stiff us by around 30% extra on the US price, and no wall charger. I was toying with the idea of getting one from the US till my wife's work organisation in it's infinite and ridiculous wisdom decided that she needs an iPad 2 (she doesn't) , and bought her one ! So I suppose forking out the additional $40 isn't all that bad.
 
I must say that Apple should definitely have done something about this problem of charging that many, many desktops and laptops have.
