Thanks for your suggestion to google past entries disappearing from calendar.
I see that in settings>calendar>sync
It must be set to one month by default.
Changed the setting to all entries
And all my entries reappeared......!
I am only guessing, but I am guessing the entries disappeared with the new year.

Believe it is a setting in the iPad. Settings>Mail, Contacts, Cal..
Perhaps an Internet search will show some way to recover. Would also search and ask the Apple Forums.

I have gone back into last years calendar and the enteries have vanished.
I have backed up to iCloud, and they have not reappeared.
