In connection with the 100th anniversary of Tarzan, they had a contest on one of the Swiss radio stations to see who could imitate Tarzan's call the best! They made a 1-minute recording of the best ones, and it was just absolutely hilarious to listen to it!! The radio people were amazed at the amount of participants and also the amount of e-mails that came in. A man from Lucerne wrote to say that his family was related to the Weissmüllers (Johnny Weissmüller was the original Tarzan in the first movies), and his parents wanted to name him Johnny.
I think the "original" Johnny Weissmüller Tarzan cry is the archetype of what people think it should sound like.
They gave quite a bit of information about Edgar Rice Burroughs and his three Tarzan books. I am now wondering if they are available for download (probably free?) in the iBooks store. I will soon find out!
