Try installing Goodreader. Then you should be presented with an option to open the file with Goodreader.

Did you take the video *with* your iPad or iPhone?

So the video is fully downloaded *to* the iPad?
Can you watch the video from within Mail?

I just tried taking a video with my iPhone, then emailed it to myself, then looked at my mail on the iPad. If I tap on the video in Mail, it brings up the Video application and displays from within that.

If I tap and hold on the video in the mail message, a requester comes up asking me if I want to save it.
