I have a wireless LAN in my home running 802.11g based on a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router. This is located next to my work PC in my basement office. From experience I have found that this LAN can be accessed from any point in my 2-story home.
I am interested in acquiring an iPad in order to be able to access the Internet from elsewhere in my house. Before making the decision to purchase a WiFi-only iPad on eBay or elsewhere I am hoping that someone can reply to some questions I have. I apologize if these same questions have already been asked & answered.
1. Is a WiFi-only iPad compatible with my LAN out of the box or is an app required?
2. For general web surfing is an iPad is as good as an iPad 2?
3. The various iPads offered on eBay are confusing with regard to the cost vs. amount of memory on board. Is anything beyond the basic 16 MB necessary for my proposed application?
4. There appears to be ferocious competition for iPads on eBay & what I suspect is a lot of 'shill bidding' to drive up initially attractive auction prices at the last moment. Can anyone suggest a reliable (and honest) dealer?
5. Is there a consensus market price for a WiFi-only 16 MB iPad? Is it a good idea to wait for the iPad 3 launch before springing for an iPad?
6. My primary interests are Google as my home page, COMCAST cable TV listings & the app Star Walk for use when sitting outside during summer nights. I will not be generating emails or texting with the tablet.
7. Being unfamiliar with anything Mac-related (except for the fact that they're made in China), are there any general things I should know before taking the plunge, such as availability of tech support & service (warranty & after)? Any suggestions as to accessories such as carry case, heaphones for listening to music, etc?
Thanks in advance!
