I did that and it started backing up what was in the iPad into the computer!
I was on the music list on my pc.
I wonder if I'll ever get this straight!

Go into the window when your iPad is connected and check the albums/artists you want to sync.
Frankly, I made up a couple or 3 playlists and do auto-sync them. Makes it easy to add songs when my iPad is not connected.
