Hold you finger on the screen until the magnifier pops up then slide around until you get the right spot.

Subject: [iPad] Back space key?
I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to backup on a word or sentence w/o deleting.
On a regular pc keyboard there's a backspace key. Anytime I want to backspace to correct an error, I end up deleting. I know that I can get to a spot by tapping on the screen, but I never seem to get close enough and have no other choice then to use the key that has the x on it... Delete key?
