Re: [iPad] Ipad 1 and Ipad 2

Around my house I have dozens and dozens of notebooks which I have filled up ever since college.  I always write in cursive in these journals, and find that it is almost like a form of therapy for me - the kinesthetic act of moving the pen around on the page while also thinking through all the issues that I need to process forms some sort of synergy...  It is a great speed - faster than and more fluid that printing, but slower and more thoughtful than typing.  It brings so much clarity and insight for me.  Typing is great, too, and is what I usually use for doing drafts of any writing that will need editing and publishing in some form.  But typing doesn't seem to bring the same peace of mind that cursive does for my informal writing.  This is just a personal preference for me.  I'm sure that there are any number of people who feel differently.

There is also the issue of dyslexia and learning to read.  Cursive writing heads off some of the issues with letter reversals and so forth.  b and d, for example, start off completely differently in cursive, so there is no issue with which is which.  Understanding that distinction can then carry over to the printed word.  Cursive also helps with learning directionality (moving left to right, in order) and with spacing, since it is clear which letters are connected to one word and which aren't.  I wish I had taught my children cursive from the beginning, but those points hadn't occurred to me at that time.

I now require that my 10 year old kiddos practice handwriting and touch typing exercises as part of our educational curriculum.  It only takes a few minutes a day, and I want them to be equipped to use whichever tool suits the situation in which they find themselves.

And I haven't personally picked up a notebook to write in since June of last year.  Ever since that time, I've written hundreds and hundreds of pages with my iPad.  In cursive.

The iPad is a JOY to write on!

When I write, I use half cursive and half print. To be honest though, the last time I picked up a pen for writing anything other than a check or signature was over 6 months ago. I use my blackberry for temporary notes, iPad for note and info that needs to be kept, email for all my personal communication and most professional communication as well. I still haven't hooked my printer up to the new computer yet so I haven't printed anything except a few photos for my computer phobic mother in almost a year.

Now if only I could get all these companies to send email instead of dead trees, life would be much better.
