I'm not sure what they didn't get close. Gates said computer on every desk. Jobs envisioned one in every pocket. All around the world ppl that didn't put acomputer on their desk are now putting one in their pocket. Seems jobs got closer than gates.

When Gates said in 98 that Apple would never get close, he was right, as the companies were computer companies, and that hasn't changed from then till now as far as market share is concerned
