There is also Home Sharing which does not involve sharing of credit card information. It is explained here:

As noted at that site:
You need to enter the same Apple ID and password on your computer and your iOS device.
I don't *think* Family sharing has the same restriction:
Family Sharing makes it easy for up to six people in your family to share each other's iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases without sharing accounts.
