Yeah, Im sure it used to do a clean restart, maybe I am wrong, but what else isn't started clean? It takes away the good ol troubleshooting of, lets restart clean, and take it from there. If the iPhone or iOS was good as gold and the issue was an app, or something else that isn't shut down, then getting hard to nail a cause.

Ok. As a test. I did that (power and home until logo) but left one app running. Mail. Upon getting back to the desktop. Mail was still running. iOS 8.1.2. It was on an iPhone but still....

Are you talking about a restart or a reset? The User Guide doesn't use the term hard restart. Reset is Apple's term for reboot.
PeteAh ok.Depending on the settings, they are all running, but some will be suspended, and those that are on in Background App Refresh will actually be running. So this begs the question. A hard restart should blow every running thing away, and start the iOS device clean, just as a computer doesotherwise its of little use unless you manually remove running apps first. I now wonder what else is left running as it was before the restart?

Normal for me. It seems to be just a list of apps that have been run recently. It would be nice if there were a visual distinction between running and no-longer-running, so you could quickly kill everything that's still active if you suspect that something you're using needs memory. This is often mentioned when users have an issue.I have noticed something odd, so I googled to see what a hard restart does. Yes, its like restarting your computer, losing all the apps etc that were running at the time, this is what I expected.I notice that if I hard restart my 6 PLus, then when it is back on, I double click the Home button, I still have all these apps in the multi tasking bar.Is this normal?
