I thought the article was, well strange. He criticises Airplay if the wireless network is fraught with other high throughout activities. Thats not an Airplay issue, its a wifi issue. If any user has high throughput stuff going on, and multiple users, you get a better wifi router. MIMO, AC, WMM, dual network.
My TP-Link is N, 300mbit, but only 2.4 and WMM, it works fine, although distance is not high between the rMBP, ATV3, and router.
