Get the updates to ios7. It's faster and the "swipes" left, right, up and down, are worth the effort.
Why didn't you use "where's my iPad" to find your iPad? That what the app is for, to find a stolen device. I always have mine turned on on both iPhone and iPad Air. No one can turn it off but me, and I never want it turned off.
