I believe the default is to the downloads folder although other. Destinations may be chosen.

In that respect Win and Mac OS are the same. On the desktop you can go to the file manager, Finder or Windows Explorer. On both you can see the files and file systems. If you download a file on the internet, I assume the MacOS puts that file into a default download folder? Or does it go to the desktop
