Am I the only one who uses more than one program to manipulate data on the iPad? "Where have I put it?" becomes "What App did I use to make it?" so there's no real gain in hiding everything. As for associating a file with an application, I'm intelligent enough to know what program I want to use with a given file at a given time, so I've no real need for them as well. Does "open with" create a duplicate copy for the new program to manipulate? If so, then there's a real problem knowing WHICH of several copies is the latest.
The iOS file handling model may be OK for the iPhone or iPad Touch, but it's a real pain with for the iPad.
As for organizing things, I prefer to organize by project rather than by the app used to initially create the file.
