Re: [iPad] iPhone5 Hotspot Update

Ok, I fixed it, or shall I say what wifi Apple changed

My Win 7 laptop wifi was set to use specific IP addresses.I assigned an internal static IP, subnet mask, default gateway which is my ADSL modem/wifi router.
I disabled that and set it to obtain IP addresses automatically, and all good.

Why is it that my wifi settings worked before?? iOS6 they dont??

Clearly the hotspot was using my modem IP as the gateway, which wont work as my gateway IP is what my Telco assigns on its 3G network. Clearly, before iOS6, the gateway address is ignored (if it is set to an IP rather than auto) as it will only use the Telco 3G IP only. Now, it does not default to the 3G Telco IP, it defaults to the device gateway IP which is stupid. That will never work as the iPhone is on 3G for hotspot. Dumb.

Here is one URL

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4361376?start=15&tstart=0

Hard restart of iPhone, reset network settings, wait for 5 minutes seeing if it will connect to the internet, all no go. Connects to the laptop, but not to the internet

Its an iOS6 issue, and affects non Apple devices. Given that it doesnt affect all, the variable I suspect is the wifi chip in the device, mine uses a Atheros chipset.

I was the other Tony that used USB . It's strange. Tethering never an issue plus providers here in NZ allow tethering for free so not a provider issue. I will google later to see if anyone finds a solution. On my laptop I am on wpa2-psk with aes encryption which is common

I've used a iPhone 4S (iOS 6.0.1) and iPhone 5 (iOS 6.0.2) with two different Windows 7 laptops. No problems.

I'm interested in your results with iOS 6.1.

I think it's cool that the other Tony was able to use it with a USB connection. I saw that feature but didn't try it.

Turned on hotspot on my 4S, that always worked fine for my Win 7 laptop, no go. The 4S is on 6.01, my 5 is on 6.02, so the issue is iOS 6.0x. Oddly the 4S shows as on 802..11g I thought that was N? The 5 shows N

If I set either iPhone to hotspot, the other iPhone connects to it fine to the interne

Interesting. If I use my 5 as a hotspot, my Win7 laptop connects, but not to the internet. My 4S was fine. I have my 4S still and two iPads so will test soon.

Hmm?
It connects, but "not to the internet". What *does* it connect to?
