Usually Apple has kind of a schedule of when they release new items. There's no reason to rush out to buy the iPad4, at least for me.
I don't notice that my iPad3 is any slower.
The mini? I don't love. I have a Nook also, and really, the screen is too small to browse the Internet, etc. for any length of time. The iPad3 is great for that and any pictures I put on the iPad3 are fantastic!!!
But I'm sure it will sell well … Apple products do!

Personally, I love my iPad 3, but it IS slow. I have thought that since I got it when it first came out, but I like it too much to change yet.

Same applies when you buy a new car. All IT will update, no matter if its sooner, makes no difference apart from extra voluntary choice.
