The current thought of the ultra-right is that Snopes is not to be trusted. And that comes from the fact that so much of the really far out crap you and I get in email from our ultra-right friends is so often shown to be at minimum, a bit of a stretch, and usually totally bogus.
Snopes not only writes up the pages they do, on those pages are the source material to show exactly how they came to that conclusion.
Can he provide some proof? Maybe, but in every discussion group I've been in that has seen that questioned asked, the sound is thunderously quiet when it comes to proof.
Snopes is respected because they are so good at what they do.
