I read an anecdote many years ago (possibly in Reader's Digest) about
someone who said her father's driving-rules about lights was:
Green means go
Yellow means go-faster
Red means FLOOR IT!
I prefer the expression my father learned in some sort of Adult
Driver-refresher course -- "stale green" meaning that green light a block
away has been green a while so it's probably going to change before you get
there so be ready (to slow/stop).
I also stop for pedestrians but that's just because I'm some kind of weirdo
(though more people do seem to be doing it around here....perhaps all those
signs & ads are having some effect)
