Actually, that is the workaround.  Versions 1.4 and up won't work. I suspect Amazon has added additional DRM to the later versions, and Lion Security is blocking it.

I just tried my Mac Kindle App, and it does work - maybe check to see if you have the latest update?  Mine is version 1.2.3.  All of the Apple/Mac-based Kindle apps have been updated in the past couple of days.
