On your computer, make sure digital camera notification is enabled and the desired actions and programs are selected to handle your photo and video import.

Note: If you have a media application on your computer to which you would like your images and videos imported, you can select that program from the AutoPlay settings window in the Control Panel.

To import photos or video from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the Windows Photo Gallery:

  1. Connect the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer. Windows should automatically open the AutoPlay dialog box.
Note: If the AutoPlay dialog box does not automatically open, you may need to enable the behavior.

  2. Select the "Import pictures and videos using Windows" option in the AutoPlay dialog.
  3. You can optionally choose to tag the photos and video you want to copy. Click Import after you're finished tagging.
    Import Pictures and Videos
  4. AutoPlay will then import your images and videos to the Windows Photo Gallery. This screen appears only while the import process is active:
    Import progress
  5. Once the import is complete, Windows Photo Gallery will launch with your photos and videos highlighted under the "Recently Imported" section:
    Windows Photo Gallery

Find more information about transferring media from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a PC using:

Windows XP: Transferring personal photos and video from your device to your PC

* Video importing requires QuickTime 7.6.2 or later.

Is it solipsistic around here, or is it just me?

Is there any easy way to get my photos from my iPad? I have about 4500
photos I would like to export to my computer. Thanks! Janet G in Sun City,

For Win7 --

Plug iPad into computer w/sync cable
No need to have iTunes even open.

Open an explorer window {windows-key + E}

After a little bit the iPad will appear as a portable device (digital
camera).
(alt method: open Control Panel/Devices & Printers)

Select the iPad, and drill down until you get to the folder with the images.

Have another explorer window open & a folder open & ready to receive your
images; select the images on the ipad & drag/drop to the folder.

This works for several dozen images, I haven't tried it with hundreds let
alone thousands. If you can do it in one go, it might take "a while".

For Win XP, IIRC, just plugging the iPad in will bring up the photo-import
wizard (which isn't *in* W7 apparently.)

I don't know which way Vista goes on this, but one or the other should work.
