One thing to watch for - if you use IMAP - make sure all your devices use IMAP
If you're not sure what to use, use IMAPWhen you use an iPad's mail program to read Gmail, you are using IMAP
With POP, the device normally downloads mail locally and erases it on the server. This means if you use POP on more than one device to access the same account, you can end up with mail scattered all over the place, or duplicate messages on every device (you would normally set all devices but one to "leave mail on server" and the primary device to download the message)

One way to seriously confuse most mail servers is to set one device to IMAP and another to POP and hit the same account. That will end up screwing up your mail
