Re: [iPad] Education

True story --
In my senior US history class, the teacher said something about where was
Delaware, or something in Delaware (I forget details).

In unison, we all said "Ohio!" so of course she looked confused -- until we
all pointed to the girl who was from Delaware, Ohio.

At the age when so many others were learning all the US state capitals,
I was learning all the counties in England, as well as drawing maps of
England. I had an English teacher in a Swiss school at the time.
I've forgotten all that too, though I have picked up some of the
US state capitals over the years (some of it from TV!)

The reason I said I did not think history and geography are taught comes
from readings. I regret that I have not kept the information to give you
citations. More than one report was based on questions asked college
Freshman. How those people graduated high school is beyond me. Don't know
where countries are located; no idea that Canada and Mexico are in North
America; Brazil is in Africa; lack of knowledge of the Declaration and the
Constitution; could not name our Founding Fathers and it continues.
