That's just odd. I only sync my iPad every 3 months or so and backup has never taken that long. But. Alas anecdotal evidence sucks. I'm on a Mac which may be part of the issue

You need to let it keep doing its thing -- it took my iPad much longer
than 3 hours to complete the whole process. Just keep it plugged in and
let it keep doing its thing until it's finished.
