I get them all the time on my iPad2 and iPhone 4 (and now 4s).
Its a mail anomaly. If you hit the "mailboxes" key in the upper left of the screen, that takes you back to all your mailboxes, then touch the "All Inboxes" and they are gone.
Don't know why, but this has been happening to me for a very, very long time. I'll even get 5, 6, sometimes 10 in a row.
Another problem with mail is that sometimes posts appear 2, 3 or 4 times as well. Right now on iPad 2, i've got 2 of the posts from Linda that I'm replying to.
Apple says to go through and delete each mailbox then set them up again... that's an amazing amount of hassle... I think I'd rather just have this problems than to go through seven mailbox set-ups.
