I didn't know I was supposed to vote, but if it's not too late I vote for
"it's not spam".
We get lots of app-suggestions-links here on all sorts of topics;
occasionally there's something I do find interesting and I'm quite used to
deleting messages (in numerous groups) that don't interest me for one reason
or another.
I don't think app-ideas need to be tied into some existing thread, either.

Even by your definition, Carl's posting was spam... since only a handful
of persons responded to my "spam" notice with a positive defense of
Carl. (I believe the number was 5). Is "5" a number significant enough
within this group to warrant unbidden, unsolicited appeals for
commercial products which are not tied into - either by inclusion or
reference - conversational threads?
