[iPad] Strange question about apps?

 

My wife has an iPad2 with no 3G access....only wi-fi. A few apps she has downloaded seem to be entirely on her iPad (Solitaire, etc), but others have to access off her iPad ( some recipes, etc.). Is there a way to know which apps are completely on her iPad and which are not?.....especially, before they are downloaded?
