Actually. That point was made. Regardless, the fact remains that, even in 15 seconds, because of the design, that port (both the male and female end) could easily be damaged.

As usual with these kinds of click-bait articles, the author doesn't bother to mention that charging the Pencil in this manner is for a quick charge as might be required (15 seconds charge=30 minutes battery life). It can be charged via USB with the included adapter which gives 12 hours use on a full charge. The remaining charge can be monitored via a battery widget on the iPad Pro.
