Do you see the word Groups on the top left when you open Contacts on your iPad? If so, tap that and then pull down on the list to refresh the information. If not, here are some tips from Apple:

If I open a new mail in Apple Mail on my Mac, and enter "UCMC" in the "To:" field, it is automatically populated with all the members of that group (listed individually).

In Mail on the iPad, if I do the same thing, I get a popup listing all the members of that group, which I can then select as a group.

I would recommend, as with most group emails, entering them NOT in the "To:" field, but in the "BCC:" field, so that you aren't sending a long list of email addresses to everyone on the destination list.
