For me, I use VIP for my insurance lady, a doctor, my ophthalmology clinic, a couple of geniuses at work and a science-fiction pal. When you get that email from yourself, you most likely touched a star by your name, adding yourself to VIPs. If you touch that star again on your desktop, you can remove yourself from the VIP list.
If I start getting emails from someone I don't want to miss, I click the star by their name and then they are in my VIP list. I can also remove anyone when the business is finished.
