Thank you to you and the others who contributed. Chérie, I presume you're using the Mail app? If so your experience is what I need.
When you connected your GMail account to your iPad, did it download all your archived messages?
In my case I would hate this to happen; I don't want to use up my iPad storage to store locally over a GB of mail that is currently stored on the GMail servers. Whereas if I use Safari it stays on the server - but I have to answer online.
