Pages should be able to open most any Word document without much problem; usually it's the older Word documents or ones with oddball formatting that have problems. But then again some even Word has problems with some Word docs. You can open Word documents with Pages easily: just control-click the document in the Finder holding down the mouse button and you'll see a menu with "Open with..." and use that to select Pages. Once your done with it you can save it to your hard drive.

No, you cannot download NeoOffice to your iPad. It's not an app; the app they do have is just for accessing documents using NeoOffice Mobile.
