I'm used to Windows and find it easy to use, but I dislike its kitchen-sink, patched-together feel. Every second Tuesday there are major security fixes. That does not incline one to an attitude that the adults are in charge at Microsoft. I have the sense that OSX is a much more adult operating system.
I was fortunate to move directly from TRS-80 Model III and Model 4P to a Unix-based OS with easy access to both GUI *and* command line, that could pre-emptively multitask in 512 kB of RAM with 1 floppy (AmigaDOS, 1986).
I never owned a DOS- or Windows-based computer, and never had to use one to attempt anything productive.
I started using the MacOS in connection with a hardware and software emulator that ran on my Amiga, and only actually bought a Mac in 1998, long after Commodore had screwed themselves into bankruptcy.
So I took the Mac fork.
My wife kept repairing her Amiga and using that until finally taking the Linux fork.
MacOS 9.0 was released in 1999; 9.1 and 9.2 in 2001.
The MacOS X Public Beta came out in September 2000.
Apple made a nearly-complete break to put there money on a Unix-based OS; Windows never really did that.
