Ok. Weird. I've never seen that happen. Now on the android I use sometimes since the touch isn't accurate I find that I gotta aim wrong to get it to work. 

Glad you found a solution though. It seems odd but that doesn't matter as much as a workable solution :)

Dead means it's just like touching a black type sentence p  when nothing happens. Not active like a hyperlink should.

For me Safari is really bad, links don't work gave the time. My friend told me about Mercury. There is a free copy and a pro copy in the App Store. Based on my friends recommendation I bought the pro copy for 99¢. It much better.
