Re: [iPad] POP/IMAP

I don't know how it works.  When I access Yahoo mail with my PC I'm directed to a POP server and when I access the mail with an iOS device I get directed to an IMAP server.  How Yahoo syncs the two is not my concern as long as it works.  My Gmail is set up as IMAP only so no problem there.  Most people that drive a car have no clue as to how an engine works,  they just turn the key on and drive, they don't need to know how it works.

If you manage to maintain a server that handles one account being accessed via POP and IMAP, then I applaud your technical skill (and am deeply curious about what platform you're using).

However, in a general use list like this one, a lot of people are going to be using servers that do NOT handle POP and IMAP well on the same account. I know for a fact that this will deeply louse up an account on many types of servers, and at best it's going to be extremely confusing as each protocol will miss some transactions done by the other. So I am sure we should be advising people to try to avoid doing this. .
